The APBD Research Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Arky to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Arky is an obstetrics-gynecology (OBGYN) physician with 22 years of experience in private group practice in Manchester, CT. Before pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Arky worked for 7 years as a mechanical engineer, his major at Rutgers University. He lives with his loving and supportive wife Kathy of 33 years. Larry and Kathy have two children: a son who just started in his first job as a mechanical engineer and a daughter who is in her first year of OBGYN residency.

Soon after Dr. Arky was diagnosed with APBD in 2023, he joined the APBD Patient Chats. Then, in 2024, he agreed to share his personal APBD experience at our Scientific and Community Conference. Dr. Arky, now adjusting to early retirement, is volunteering his professional expertise to the Foundation. He is actively participating in discussions with our clinicians and researchers, who are identifying and developing biomarkers and advancing drug development initiatives.

“Dr. Arky brings a unique perspective as both a physician and a patient living with this ultra-rare disease. He will help us elevate voices of the APBD patient community in a way that only someone with his background can. His involvement is invaluable as we continue our efforts to increase engagement, expand our reach, and make treatments a reality for those affected by APBD and allied diseases,” said Jeff Levenson, DDS, co-president.

“I, and the other members of our Board and staff, look forward to working with Dr. Arky to advance our mission,” added Emil Weiss, co-founder and co-president.

Dr. Arky shares the Foundation’s vision of “a life free from APBD.” Please join us in welcoming Dr. Arky to the Board of Directors!
