In April 18th's  New York Times, writer David Brooks in an  OpEd titled "How to Leave a Mark On People" powerfully articulated  our feelings about the APBD Research Foundation and the work we do.  In his provocative essay, he discusses how some organizations -"thick ones" - have far reaching impacts while others he labels "thin" do not.

The late LD Coddon and Robert Lipsig clearly understood what makes a "thick" institution. They championed our cause and inspired many of us to work closely together for the common good.

Penn Medicine is another "thick" institution whose matching grant program brings us all together as a community of rare diseases.
